ROG Tessen is a good product but the market it’s full of cheaper alternatives and you have to be a bit of a fan of the brand to go for it. We could tell you to wait for it to be discounted, but ROG products do not depreciate as easily as others.
Lets see now what these mobile android controller has to offer.
The first thing that jumps out at you is definitely the foldable design that makes it easy to carry and fit the smartphone. The keys offer mechanical feedback, ensuring precise tactile response during gameplay. In addition, the configurable rear metal paddles add another layer of control. Armory, the official ROG app, allow to reprogram every button of the controller for an optimal gaming experience.
What the controller miss is vibration, iOS support and some better analog sticks, which nonetheless do their “dirty” job without any major drama.
Since there is no battery then you have to take into account that you might need a powerbank, given the high consumption of the games and the additional consumption of the controller (and its LEDs).
That said, once you have your smartphone plugged in, the ROG Tessen “blends” with the smartphone shell really giving you the impression that you have a handheld console on your hands. If one can overlook the shortcomings listed above (and the price), the gaming experience is excellent.
